Elena Laer, L.Ac./EAMP, LMP
Elena graduated from Ashmead College in 2004 and has been working as a massage therapist ever since.
She specializes in Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, one of the only therapists in the Puyallup area able to provide this treatment. Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, or just Ashiatsu, is a type of massage in which the therapist gives all or most of the massage treatment with his/her feet and uses overhead bars to hold onto for balance. Ashiatsu is a westernized version of barefoot massage and is very much like Swedish Massage with flowing and relaxing strokes, yet the pressure is very heavy on the body like Deep Tissue Massage. The technique is ideal for larger bodied clients that like a deep massage, however modifications can be made for different body types.
Elena also offers Gua Sha treatment, which is a healing technique of traditional East Asian medicine. Sometimes called ‘coining, spooning or scraping’, Gua sha is defined as instrument-assisted unidirectional press-stroking of a lubricated area of the body surface to intentionally create transitory therapeutic petechiae called ‘sha’ representing extravasation of blood in the subcutis. Raising sha removes blood stagnation considered pathogenic in traditional East Asian medicine. Modern research shows the transitory therapeutic petechiae produce an anti inflammatory and immune protective effect that persists for days following a single Gua sha treatment accounting for the immediate relief that patients feel from pain, stiffness, fever, chill, cough, wheeze, nausea and vomiting etc.
Elena also provides Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Hot Stone Massage, and Pregnancy Massage.
